Plain English

What Is ECTA?

ECTA stands for the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement. It's a free trade deal that entered into force in December 2022.

When it launched, it eliminated tariffs on most goods immediately. A small residual 1.7% of tariff lines — covering textiles, food products, and some manufactured goods — had a scheduled phase-out that was completed on 1 January 2026.

As of today, every Indian product enters Australia at 0% duty. No exceptions. No residual categories. No jargon.

This applies to goods with an Indian certificate of origin meeting ECTA rules of origin. We handle the certification documentation for every shipment.
